Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins questionable for Game 3 with sore left ankle

Before Golden State Warriors fans become too giddy about their team’s 2-0 lead in the Western Conference finals, they should consider the injury report for Game 3 — because it includes forward Andrew Wiggins.

The Warriors listed Wiggins as questionable with left ankle soreness on the report filed Saturday, per NBA regulations. Golden State meets the Mavericks on Sunday night in Dallas.

“I expect him to play — it’s just standard procedure to have to report it,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “Technically, he’s questionable but we expect him to play.”

Kerr said he didn’t realize Wiggins was hurt until Warriors vice president of public relations Raymond Ridder told Kerr on Saturday, moments before his Zoom call with reporters.

Wiggins has been one of the Warriors’ most reliable players in the postseason. He averaged 17.5 points and five rebounds in the first two games against the Mavericks, while also defending Dallas star Luka Doncic.

If Wiggins can’t play Sunday, or has limited mobility, the Warriors might use Clay Thompson on Doncic. Thompson has struggled in periodic matchups with Doncic in the series, so Golden State could decide to play more zone defense.
